There is so much more to dressage than the percentage you receive from a judge at the end of a test. At the heart of dressage training should be a foundation built on trust, building a connection between horse and rider. The horse trusts the rider to guide, communicate effectively, and ensure their well-being. This foundation of trust forms the basis for a harmonious and successful partnership.
Likewise, while we ride and compete as individuals, we are united by our love of horses. It’s important to share in the good times and the bad, and to treat those around you with respect, both on and off the horse.
The “harmony” award is intended to recognise and celebrate this connection between horse and rider and reward a harmonious partnership, as well as recognising when riders demonstrate compassion, respect and comradery towards other competitors.
The warmup stewards should nominate one or more riders each that they think demonstrate stand out qualities of horsemanship or sportsmanship in the warmup arena. The award should not be based on or influenced by competition results.
The names of those riders or partnerships nominated will go into a hat and one name will be drawn out at the end of each day of competition.
A trophy will be provided to the winner after the event.
